Fujitsu expands FRAM product range for automotive, industrial applications

The new FRAM memories from Fujitsu Electronics Europe (FEEU) with the type designation MB85RS64VY are particularly suitable for use in the automotive sector. The non-volatile FRAM technology allows fast access; the new Fujitsu products also feature temperature resistance up to 125°C and a qualification according to the industry standard AEC-Q100.

The memory devices at hand are the third component in FEEU's Automotive FRAM product line following the release of two 256Kbit and 128Kbit models in 2017. The new MB85RS64VY has 64Kbit memory and an SPI interface with a maximum frequency of 33MHz. Qualified to industry standard AEC Q100, the MB85RS64VY supports both automotive and industrial automation applications that require robust and fast non-volatile memory products in hot environments.

The MB85RS64VY operates on operating voltages between 2.7V and 5.5V. This relatively small FRAM product offers a cost-effective alternative to other members of the automotive FRAM family and is available in two package variants: SOP-8 (for the automotive and industrial market) and SON-8 (for the industrial market), the latter with a size of only 2x3mm.

The fast non-volatile FRAM memory technology positions itself as the solution to the classic dilemma between RAM and ROM. This enables protocol data to be stored immediately and directly in memory without additional data transfer from RAM to ROM. This considerably reduces the risk of data loss and simplifies the system architecture.
